VP Candidate Paul Ryan Confuses Colt McCoy for Brandon Weeden
Seeing as Ohio basically decides the 2012 election, Mitt Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan, was making the rounds in the Buckeye State today. Along with Condoleeza Rice, Ryan decided to visit the Cleveland Browns practice to take in some NFL action. Rice, who is a huge Browns fan, probably enjoyed it a little more than Ryan, considering Ryan had no idea who he was actually talking to.
Apparently, Ryan was praising Browns rookie QB Brandon Weeden, saying he enjoyed watching him play at Oklahoma State last year. While that is all fine and dandy, he was actually speaking with backup QB and University of Texas alum Colt McCoy. Ryan claimed he couldn’t tell because his helmet was on, but who really knows if that’s the truth.
While this is somewhat awkward, it definitely isn’t the worst thing a VP has ever said. Dan Quayle clinched that award forever when he said he was glad to be in the great state of Chicago. This also goes to show exactly how much the public eye is on these men. I really don’t know why it’s such a big deal that Ryan doesn’t know the Browns’ quarterbacks. It’s not like many other people know the Browns quarterback situation, let alone people running for political office.
Now, if Ryan confused Graham Harrell for Aaron Rodgers, we would have some problems, since he is from Wisconsin. We can just chalk this up as an embarrassing faux pas.
I’m sure it won’t be the last one we hear about over the next twenty days.
