Atlanta Falcons Can’t Panic Over William Moore Arrest

Josh D. Weiss-USA TODAY Sports

It’s becoming an all too familiar situation in the NFL, Player X is arrested for Y, and will suffer Z punishment from the team. Only in this case, William Moore is Player X, and the Atlanta Falcons can’t be all too happy about that.

Moor was arrested and charged with simple battery and there are no known details to the case at the time.

The Falcons only statement read, “We are aware of the situation involving William Moore and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.”

Beyond the sketchy details and scripted response from the team, the important thing is that the Falcons shouldn’t panic at all about this situation. While obviously not ideal, this is not the worst thing in the world.

In Georgia, simple battery is defined as the following:

“When a person makes intentional contact of an insulting or provoking nature with the person of another, or causes intentional harm to another.”

This crime is a simple misdemeanor in most cases, and can be elevated to a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature in certain situations. Without the details of the case, it’s unknown which category Moore falls into.

The point is, this is not the end of the world, or a waste of the five-year, $30 million contract extension with the Falcons. Bond will be set, and Moore will have his day in court, and none of this will probably affect his ability to attend team workouts or training camp.

Moore has never been in any trouble with the law or the league during his first four years in the league, and has never been known as a problem player of any kind. Whatever the mistake that was made in this case by Moore, it shouldn’t be a sign of trouble to come for their Pro Bowl safety.
