Big East Move A Factor In Doug McDermott’s Decision To Return To Creighton Bluejays

Doug McDermott is apparently convinced that returning to the Creighton Blue Jays is the best decision for his future. I happen to believe that next year’s draft class is loaded and that McDermott will be lucky to be picked in the second round, but I have definitely been wrong before. Best of luck to the young man and here’s hoping that he crawls up draft boards a bit more next year.

Apparently Creighton’s move to Big East was a factor in his decision; we will certainly get to see McDermott going up against better competition next year, so that could help his stock.

“Just being a college kid another year and playing with my best friends and joining the Big East,” McDermott said. “It couldn’t get much better. I went with my heart, my gut. Whenever I’ve done that in the past, it’s always worked out. I’m confident this is the best decision.”

McDermott was the second leading scorer in Division One last year, so it will definitely be exciting to see what he is capable of in a better conference. His father, the head coach of Creighton, was certainly pleased to have his son back for another year and that is quite special. Even if McDermott cost himself thousands of dollars, he probably would never give that senior year back for anything. Congratulations to the young man on coming to a decision.
