Doug McDermott Costing Himself Money By Returning To Creighton Blue Jays

Rant Sports- Dave Daniels

Lord I hate when this happens. Doug McDermott was one of my favorite players in this year’s March Madness tournament. As a former high school teammate of Harrison Barnes, I cannot help but root for this young man to one day make it to the pros.

Today, that chance may have taken a bit of a slip.

The two-time first-team All-American announced on Thursday he’ll return to Creighton for his senior year.

“Finally, I just said, ‘You know what, I’m coming back,’” McDermott said. “I’ve had enough of this. I’m ready to make this decision. This is where my heart is. The NBA can wait. I feel like I can play there someday, but this is an opportunity I can’t pass up.”

Greg McDermott, his father is also the coach and was pleased with his son’s decision as we’ll.

“At the end, he felt it best to stay,” Greg McDermott said. “He needed to follow his heart and do what he needed to do, and once he makes his decision to not look back and just move forward.”

McDermott was the second-leading scorer in Division One basketball last season with 23.2 points per game. He also did it while shooting extremely efficiently from the field. Creighton will join the Big East next year, so we will see what McDermott is capable of against a higher quality of competition.

“It finally hit me,” he said. “I couldn’t be more excited.”
