Louisville Cardinals Head Coach Rick Pitino, True To His Word, Gets Tattoo Commemorating National Championship

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino had quite a journey with his Cardinals this year. At one point he got fed up with all his players’ tattoos.

“I told them they have to stop with all these tattoos,” Pitino said.

That’s when the players sent it right back to Pitino. They dared him if he would get a tattoo if they won a national title. Ever see that episode of “The Office” where Andy Bernard tells his staff that he would get a butt tattoo if they had high enough sales numbers? Never seen the folks at “The Office” work harder. There may have been similar motivation going on in Louisville.

“Our biggest motivation,” senior guard Peyton Siva said, “was to get coach a tattoo.”

Adam Potts was the lucky man to give Pitino his first ink and he didn’t even charge the Hall of Famer.

“I was running a free special for any Hall of Fame coaches who won an NCAA championship in the last 30 days.” said Potts the owner of Tattoo Salvation. Some nerves kicked in for Potts though when the moment came to apply the ink.

“I was a little nervous,” Potts said Friday. “I felt like I did when I did my first tattoo 12 years ago.”

Pitino was nervous, but he ended up not feeling as much pain as he thought he would.

“It wasn’t even close to the pain I had with kidney stones,” Pitino said. “That was like an ‘A’ in pain, this was a ‘C.’”
