Sophmore Hunter Mickelson Transferring from Arkansas Razorbacks to Kansas Jayhwaks

Sophomore forward Hunter Mickelson is apparently moving on up. Not to the East side, but to the land of Tornadoes and Dorothy. He is transferring from the Arkansas Razorbacks to the Kansas Jayhawks, but he will have to sit out next season as a result. He will still have two years of eligibility after that though.

Mickelson was recruited by the Jayhawks coming out of high school, and apparently they have been keeping an eye on him. He averaged only 5.5 points and 3.5 rebounds last year, but also led his team in blocks with 39.

Kansas coach Bill Self said Friday that “the redshirt year will be great for him. It will give him the opportunity to get stronger, get confidence and get his game to the point where he can be a serious impact player for us the following year.”

The Jayhawks lost two of their top big men, Jeff Withey and Kevin Young, to graduation this year so Mickelson will be crucial for them down the line. Mickelson will likely be leaned on when he is with the roster; for next year though, he will have to enjoy the games from the bench. The Jayhawks are also in the running for the top ranked recruit of the 2013 college basketball recruiting class, Andrew Wiggins. That appears to be a longshot though as the Jayhawks are not favored by anyone to land the blue chipper. We will just have to wait and see though.
