Some Media Would Pick Kentucky Commit Julius Randle as High School Player of the Year

Rant Sports- Dave Daniels

USATodayhss.com’s Jay Jordan recently wrote a piece in which he broke down who he would pick if there were such a thing as MVP of the the high school basketball season. He had a surprising pick: Julius Randle. Jordan’s case is pretty strong too.

“The Lions went 9-19 without him and finished 6-0 with him” Jordan wrote. “Randle returned from a broken foot injury just before the state tournament and dominated over the course of five games, averaging 28.8 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. He upped that to 32.5 points and 15.5 in the state Final Four.”

The other usual suspects for the fictional award would obviously include Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker. Wiggins has been the unanimous number one player by most outlets for some time now, while Parker recently led Simeon Academy to their fourth consecutive state title.

You really couldn’t go wrong with any of these three players, but if I had a pick it would probably be Parker. He’s been a favorite of mine ever since the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year awards last summer. Maybe Wiggins will win my heart this summer, but we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, we will all patiently await Wiggins recruitment decision. My readers know I am rooting for the Heels, but nothing with Wiggins would surprise me anymore.
