Los Angeles Lakers Lose Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol Indefinitely

This season has not gone the way the Los Angeles Lakers would have liked so far considering they wouldn’t even be in the playoffs if the season ended today as the NBA Finals contenders sit three games below .500 with a 15-18 record. What makes things even worse–it looks like the Lakers will be playing without two of their stars for an extended period of time.

Los Angeles found out this week that Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol will be out indefinitely with injuries. While Howard is dealing with a shoulder injury, Gasol is recovering from a concussion after he took an elbow to the face during Sunday’s game against the Denver Nuggets.

With the way the Lakers have already been struggling this season, losing Howard and Gasol for a little bit of time is the last thing this team needs to deal with at this point in the season. Los Angeles has been waiting all year for this team to finally establish chemistry after acquiring Howard and Steve Nash, but that’s been far from the case so far and if the first part of the season is any indication–it doesn’t look like it’s going to get better anytime soon.

The Lakers were supposed to be one of the top contenders in the league heading into this season considering the type of talent they have on paper and they better hope Howard and Gasol bounce back form these injuries quickly. Otherwise–this Los Angeles team is just going to continue being one of the biggest disappointments of the 2012-13 season.
