More Than 70,000 Voicemails Were Left At NFL Office After Replacement Referee Controversy

Kirby Lee – US PRESSWIRE

Thanks to the power of the Internet, the phone number for the NFL league office became known to a lot of people. After the replacement referees did weird things, the fans decided to be heard. 70,000 voicemails were left at the league office, which meant a lot of interns had a busy morning.

I will admit that I was one of those people.  I love football and it is simply becoming a disgrace to the sport.  These refs can not keep up with the speed of the game and it is turning into a farce.  The games seem destined to become circuses and there is nothing the fans can do.

Leaving angry voicemails may seem juvenile but it might have let the league known just how many fans are upset with all these calls.  The refs are simply in over their head.  They couldn’t land good reffing jobs, but they are suddenly handed the keys to the NFL.  That sounds like a horrible storyline for a sitcom, but it has played out in real life.

Those poor, poor interns who had to delete all of those messages probably had a rough morning.  There were a LOT of angry people who wanted to call but many of them were met with the busy signal.  There could have been a lot more messages than there ended up being.

Hopefully this was the final straw in this debate.  Give us the real refs back.
