Brooklyn Nets: Billy King “Happiest” for Brook Lopez

Earlier today, Brooklyn Nets General Manager Billy King met with the media to answer any questions about the Nets’ offseason and discuss the upcoming season. King touches on several topics including the possibility of a championship, Andray Blatche, and even what might have happened had Deron Williams left the Nets.

King seemed confident about the Nets’ future, and specifically confident in young center Brook Lopez. When asked which player he was the happiest for, King surprised the media, by not responding with the answer of Deron Williams or Joe Johnson, but rather, Brook Lopez. King told the press,

“The guy I’m happiest for is Brook Lopez because he knows he’s here, that he’s part of the foundation we’re building here.”

Perhaps King’s inclining towards Lopez is due to the fact that Lopez is just 24 years old, or perhaps because Lopez is the only size the roster really has. Whatever it may be, the answer surprised many people, including me, who thought the only suitable answer for that question would either have been Deron Williams (who re-signed and finally got the supporting cast that he’s always asked for) or MarShon Brooks (a dark horse for the Sixth Man of the Year). Lopez, who is coming off of a season where he was limited to 5 games because of injury, doesn’t seem to have things going his way lately.

Even so, Billy King went on to say that “the sky is the limit for him (Lopez).” Nets fans can only hope he’s right.
