Florida Has the Edge Against Missouri in SEC Showdown

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 10 Florida Gators and No. 17 Missouri Tigers will meet this Saturday in the SEC showdown in college basketball that everyone has been waiting for. However, the Gators have an edge in this one.

Sorry, Tigers’ fans.

Florida has been dealing with many injuries this season, with ankle injuries affecting both Mike Rosario and Casey Prather and broken bones popping up in Scottie Wilbekin and Erik Murphy. However, the only player that will likely be sidelined against Missouri will be Prather.

If you watched the Gators play against Texas A&M on the road, you would know that these injuries have not done anything to this team. Florida won that game by the score of 68-47. Better yet, the Gators very stingy D held Elston Turner to just four points.

This was the same Turner that dropped 40 points on the Kentucky Wildcats a couple of games ago.

Missouri may be without its leading scorer Laurence Bowers in the game, which is very bad news. Florida has the best defense in the SEC and arguably the best offense.

Florida has four players scoring in double digits this season, but all four of those players are capable of going off on any given night. Not to mention, the Gators have one of the best shooting guards in the nation in Kenny Boynton. Boynton is leading the team with 13.2 points per game.

Missouri is a great team and will definitely have the advantage in the rebounding department, being the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation, but Florida is playing too good of basketball right now and will be playing at home.

Florida is 3-0 in conference play and has won those games by an average of 25.3 points per game. When this team is clicking on all cylinders it is unstoppable. You can say that about a lot of teams, but the Gators are the real deal and will likely improve to 4-0 in the conference after the showdown against the Tigers.
