Oregon Ducks Trying to Land Two Key Recruits

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Tanner McEvoy visited Eugene, Oregon last weekend and received a scholarship offer to join the Oregon Ducks. McEvoy is a 4-star, dual-threat quarterback who would fit perfectly in Oregon’s uptempo offense. Current QB Bryan Bennett will possibly be switching to defense, which opens up a spot in the Ducks backfield. McEvoy, 6-foot-6 and 200 lbs., will likely make a decision soon and he could be a difference maker immediately for the Ducks. McEvoy was a WR and QB in high school, but he has used his size and speed to make him even more effective as a quarterback. McEvoy has great body awareness in the pocket, thanks to all the agility drills he used to do as a wide receiver.

The Ducks will also meet this week with Durham Smythe, a 3-star TE, later this week, and the coaching staff thinks his production in the Blur offense could be quite effective.

“I like the fact that their offense is very fast-paced, which is something I’ve become familiar with through my high school,” said Smythe. “At the same time, they like to include a tight end in most of their spread sets which is unique in that scheme.”

Out of Belton (TX), Smyhte is the sixth-ranked TE on Scout, and has great size at 6-foot-6 to be a red zone threat at his position. One thing is for sure: it would be a nice start to the post-Chip Kelly era at Oregon if they can continue to get fast talent on the offensive side of the ball.
