New York Giants Training Camp Profile: Brandon Myers

Three different starting tight ends in three seasons; the New York Giants enter the 2013 NFL Training Camp hoping to stop the aforementioned revolving door.

With the hope of accomplishing the previously stated task, New York made a move in free agency to sign a tight end. In 2012, former Giants starting tight end Martellus Bennett served as an inconsistent target for Eli Manning — one who pulled in 626 yards and five touchdowns.

Entering 2013, the Giants signed a player who could be an upcoming standout receiver — Brandon Myers, who formerly played for the Oakland Raiders.

Oakland’s passing offense was surprisingly effective in 2012. As a whole, the team managed to rank eight in the league in passing offense. A large reason for this success — a word not commonly associated with any recent Raiders’ seasons – was the 806 yards and four touchdowns for which Myers accounted.

Currently, the Giants have four tight ends on their roster. It is likely that one player at this position will not be on the 53-man roster at the start of the 2013 NFL Regular Season. The most likely roster casualty is Larry Donnell — sitting fourth on the depth chart.

Myers’ biggest threat to steal a starting position is still one that is minimal. However, the most likely scenario would be in the event of a development in third-string tight end Adrien Robinson – second-string tight end Bear Pascoe will always serve a greater role as an H-Back than a receiving tight end.

The job is Myers’ to lose, and it is likely that he will serve as the Giants’ starting tight end in the 2013 NFL Season.
