According to reports, Arsenal and Juventus have been told they must stump up £25.5 million to sign Real Madrid‘s Gonzalo Higuain.

Earlier on SunSport, Arsene Wenger had reportedly met with 25-year-old Higuain’s father Jorge who also acts as Higuain’s agent as Wenger made it clear that the Gunners want the Argentine and are prepared to bid £19 million as well as offering him £150,000 per week.

However, on Sunday, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was understood to have held talks with Juventus president, Andrea Agnelli, at a restaurant as the Serie A champions are desperate to land Higuain. Juventus are thought to have so far only offered £18.7 million — an inferior bid to Arsenal’s.

Perez insists that Los Blancos are not trying to push the player out of the door but it is the Argentine international who wants to leave as he had stated after Madrid’s final La Liga game against Osasuna.

It seems both Arsenal and Juventus may have to wait for a decision on Higuain until a replacement for Jose Mourinho has been appointed — with Carlo Ancelotti the likely replacement.

Perez is nonetheless demanding €30 million (£25.5 million) for Higuain. As of now, it seems the north London club are in a better position to pay that fee than the Bianconeri.

Higuain has had a productive season for Real Madrid, bagging 19 goals in 44 games for the La Liga runners up while his overall record for Madrid stands at 122 goals in 266 games. No wonder the two clubs want to bolster their attacking options.
