The New York Yankees Looked Lost on Monday Night

Yankees-Astros

Okay, maybe I was wrong. On Monday, I wrote that the New York Yankees would have a good chance of winning their first two games against the Houston Astros and enter May at 17-9.

The Yankees were defeated by the Astros 9-1 on Monday night. There is no reason to lose by eight runs against one of the weaker teams in the league. What made things worse was that the game was at Yankee Stadium and the starter was Andy Pettitte, who I thought was the Yankees’ second-best pitcher after Hiroki Kuroda.

I don’t get the Yankees. They swept a four-game series from the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing only 13 runs in the four games, yet they gave up nine runs in one game?

This is the fun part about being a Yankees fan. They’ll do great one weekend and you’ll think that they can be one of the best teams in the league. And then, they play a rough game and you’ll think that the four-game sweep was a fluke. Monday was only one game, though. They’ve still won seven of their last 11, so I’m not going to get too upset.

Monday’s loss was probably the worst game they played since the 8-2 opening day loss against the Boston Red Sox. The team just looked lost on Monday. Maybe they were still carried away from the Toronto series over the weekend. Looking on the bright side, the Yankees’ one run was driven in by Vernon Wells, who still impresses me with the way he has been playing.

I have a good feeling that the Yankees will get back on the right track tonight because Hiroki Kuroda is pitching. To me, Kuroda is their most reliable starter. I mean, they really can’t play as badly tonight as they played last night, right?
