An important light heavyweight bout takes place this weekend for UFC 159, where Phil Davis will be challenging Vinny Magalhaes in what should be a very interesting grappling battle.  A lot of verbal warfare has been exchanged by both fighters, so their motivation for this fight will not be lacking at all.

Davis has been one of the most exciting and promising fighters to watch in the light heavyweight division.  He is a former All-American at Penn State University, and his sheer athleticism and body frame is stunning to behold.  Transitioning to MMA, Davis has been able to use his wrestling, while setting up some beautiful submissions in the process.  His lone loss came at the hands of Rashad Evans, who is one of the best fighters inside the UFC.

A win over Magalhaes would be a huge feather in his cap, as he is one of the best submission artists in the UFC.  Davis has said in the past that Magalhaes is scared to face him, and would say that wrestling beats jiu jitsu more often times than not.  It will be interesting to see if he can back up these words come fight night.

Magalhaes comes into this fight with a lot of motivation.  He would like more than anything to prove he wasn’t ducking Davis, and that his jiu jitsu skills will be enough to earn him an impressive victory.  Currently, he is the best jiu jitsu practitioners in the heavyweight division, and is an ADCC world champion with a second degree black belt in jiu jitsu.  He will need to use this jiu jitsu and his powerful hands if he wants to claim victory, which would be huge for his career.

Both fighters seem to have tension coming into this fight, making it an exciting grappling bout to look forward to this weekend on UFC 159.
