Branden Dawson and the Top 3 Small Forwards in the Big Ten

Mike Carter-US PRESSWIRE-Branden Dawson should have a great season for the Spartans after coming off of an injury.

Although the 2012-13 college basketball season seems miles away, there is still plenty to look forward to, like the top-three small forward in the Big Ten Conference.

So, lets take a look at them, shall we.

Branden Dawson, Michigan State-Dawson didn’t finish his freshman campaign off last season like he would have wanted, tearing his ACL and all, but he is poised to make a huge impact for the Spartans in the upcoming season. Before he went down, Dawson managed to put up 8.4 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. Keep in mind, that Dawson barely played over 20 minutes per game. With more playing time, and hopefully a full recovery, Dawson will be one of the best small forwards in the Big Ten.

Drew Crawford, Northwestern-Crawford was the man last season, averaging 16.1 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. Being a guard/forward, Crawford can shoot from just about anywhere on the court, and he can also get to the basket. Crawford’s 6’5” frame allows him to be successful on both the inside and outside.

Rodney Williams, Minnesota-Williams had a breakout season last year, by putting up 12.2 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. Expect another increase in his production in his senior year. However, what makes Williams so special is not what he does on offense, but what he does on defense. Williams has great athleticism, mad hops and great size, which definitely goes a long ways on both defense and offense. Although he has been relied on for his defense, Williams should play a pretty big role in the Gophers’ offense in 2012.
