Northeastern To Host Mens’ Basketball Tip-Off Dinner Tonight

Rob Kinnan-US PRESSWIRE

Following an eventful summer, consisting of a dominant 7-game tour through Canada, the Northeastern Huskies are ready to kickoff their 2012-13 Mens’ Basketball season for this upcoming winter.

Tonight, September 20, the Huskies will be holding their Annual Tip-Off Dinner in the Northeastern Alumni Center in Boston. The reception will begin at 6:30PM and the dinner will start at 7:00PM.

This season is very much anticipated by the Husky faithful and head coach Bill Coen, as the squad brings back talented veterans in seniors Joel Smith and Jonathan Lee and sophomore Quincy Ford, while also welcoming new talent, such as freshman, Zach Stahl, who looks to contribute right away. Northeastern is fresh off their 10th consecutive p double-digit win season and  will look to compete at the top of the Colonial Athletic Association.

To celebrate last seasons’ success and to look forward to another solid year for the Huskies, the Dinner will feature former Boston Celtics great, Cedric Maxwell. Maxwell played a key role in two grueling NBA Finals in the early 1980s. He was the MVP of the 1981 Finals, as he led the Celtics past the Houston Rockets for the franchise’s 13th NBA championship. He was also a key contributor in the Celtics’ 1984 championship over the Los Angeles Lakers. During this upcoming 2012–13 NBA season, Maxwell will be in his 18th season as the color commentator for the Celtics’ radio broadcast.

As the Huskies look towards shifting their focus on the winter season, practice for the basketball team will open in about 4 weeks.

Tickets cost $100 per person for the public.
