Atlanta Falcons: The Stadium of Questions Continues

Plans for the new stadium are moving ahead, and public opposition continues to grow.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank recently confirmed that there will be a personal seat license program in place by the time the new stadium is finished. He also truthfully admitted that they “don’t know what it’s going to look like yet (but) expect it to be a much more modest program than some other franchises have done.” While the attempt at transparent honesty is refreshing, that statement raises many more questions in its ambiguity. What will the prices be and who will be able to afford them? Hopefully the solutions will be crafted and implemented with respect to the fans—the real fans who have been loyal to their team through the losses and the wins—and to the investors alike.

Whether or not the stadium will be built is a moot point; where it will be built has almost reached this same point. Yet there seems to be a limited vision of the commission involved. The current impression is that it’s about reaching the goal line at all costs, without taking a look around to see what might be waiting to disrupt the entire journey…or who that excursion might dislocate along the way.

But is that really what’s taking place?

As more information becomes available, it almost seems that the new stadium isn’t necessarily going to be geared to or for the true fans. Every answer provided raises more questions about the logic of the project, if not the viability.

As the old saying goes, money talks. Hopefully the voice of that money alone won’t drown out all who deserve to be heard.
