Boston Bruins history for October 5:
1960: In what is then the earliest start to a season for the Bruins, they open their 1960-61 campaign with a 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers.
1989: The Bruins begin the 1989-90 season by beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4.
1993: Just like in 1960, the Bruins start their season with a game against the Rangers. Also just like in 1960, the game is decided by one goal, but this time the Bruins get the 4-3 win.
1996: Another Bruins season kicks off with a game against the Rangers. This one ends in a 4-4 tie.
2000: The 2000-01 season begins much like the 1996-97 one did–with a 4-4 tie, though this one comes against the Ottawa Senators.
2005: The 2005-06 season for the Bruins opens up with a 2-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens, the team that knocked them out of the 2004 playoffs. Patrice Bergeron scores the lone goal against a team featuring Michael Ryder on the lineup and Claude Julien behind the bench. In pregame ceremonies, Milt Schmidt, Derek Sanderson and John McKenzie are on hand to inaugurate the first Bruins game since the 2004-05 lockout.
2007: The Bruins’ 2007-08 season begins with a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars as the team starts off with a five-game road trip right off the jump. Just like in 2005, the only Boston goal is scored by Bergeron.
