Diamond Bar (Calif.) football practice on Wednesday probably seemed like just another day for rising junior Cordell Broadus, but his young life was about to change for the better. The next day he was offered a scholarship by USC Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin.

“Things are happening fast, it’s crazy, I haven’t had the chance to tell my parents or my dad about the USC offer yet,” Broadus told 247Sports. “I’m going to tell him soon. He’s going to be shocked and happy at the same time. In the end, he won’t put pressure on me to pick a college. He’s like any other dad and wants the best for his kid in the future.”

Snoop Dogg has got to be proud of his son, although calling him “like any other dad” might be a stretch.

“The plan is to ride this thing out,” he told 247Sports. “I want to take my time with recruiting. I’ll pick my college during my senior season.”

Hopefully he had a chance to talk to his dad soon after his 24/7 sports interview; it always strikes me as odd when some of these athletes talk to reporters about big events in their lives before they even have a chance to get in touch with their parents. Had something similar happen with Andrew Wiggins last month and part of me wanted to say, “you can call your mom or dad first and then call me back?”.

That’s not exactly professional though; it will be fun to see how Broadus develops as a young player be it at USC or any of the other schools he has offers from.
