The San Antonio Rampage announced that it would honor Jessica Redfield Ghawi at its home opener October 13th, 2012. Ghawi who was a victim in the theatre shooting in Aurora, Colorado in July was a San Antonio native and avid hockey fan who had interned in San Antonio and attended many Rampage games.  Prior to the game the Rampage will unveil the “Jessica Redfield Press Box”, the home press box for the 2012-2013 season.

Also available at the game will be two San Antonio Rampage Jerseys with “Redfield” on the back that will be part of a silent auction to raise funds for the Jessica Redfield Foundation. Dan Weiss, Rampage radio play-by-play voice had this to say about Jessica; “Jessica’s involvement with the Rampage and Spurs Sports and Entertainment over the years impacted the lives of many of our staff and fans, and as we kick off the new season, we believe that it is important to continue to celebrate her life and keep her a part of the game that she loved.”

Jessica’s family will be in attendance to drop the opening ceremony puck and a moment of silence will be observed in her memory prior to start of the game.

The Jessica Redfield Sports Journalism Scholarship Fund was founded to help up and coming Sports Journalists on their way to achieving the dream Jessica had. For more information or to donate you can check here or follow the foundation on twitter at @JRGFoundation.
