2012 Fantasy Football Busts Week 5: Looking at Three Players to Avoid

Here’s a look at the top three players to avoid for Fantasy Football Busts Week 5:

3. Philadelphia Eagles Wide Receiver Jeremy Maclin

Unfortunately for the Eagles, Maclin has been unable to live up to his true potential over the last few weeks due to an injury. Maclin recorded just one catch for seven yards against the New York Giants in Week 4 and faces a difficult matchup in Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers–who will do anything they can to avoid a 1-3 start after losing to the Oakland Raiders two weeks ago.

2. Tennessee Titans Running Back Chris Johnson

It finally happened in Week 4–Johnson broke the 100-yard mark for the first time this season after recording 141 rushing yards against the Houston Texans. While this is something to be excited about, fantasy football owners need to be cautious about Johnson heading into Sunday as he will be facing the Minnesota Vikings–who currently rank seventh when it comes to stopping the run.

1. Buffalo Bills Running Backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller

On paper, the Bills arguably have one of the deadliest duos at running back in Jackson and Spiller, but injuries have prevented them from living up to their true potential over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, fantasy owners shouldn’t expect big numbers from either of these players in Week 5 going against one of the toughest defenses the league has to offer in the San Francisco 49ers.

The Niners rank fifth when it comes to stopping the run–so Jackson and Spiller should be avoided at all costs.
