Rant-O-Matic: Previewing Game 3 Matchups Between Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds

Here’s the latest edition of Rant-O-Matic for October 9, 2012:

Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland Athletics

In one of the most exciting matchups of the postseason considering how both teams were two of the hottest in baseball to close out the regular season, the Tigers have a chance to close out their series against the Athletics on Tuesday if they can pull out a win in Game 3. Anibal Sanchez will be squaring off against Brett Anderson as Detroit looks to reach the championship series for the second-straight season.

Oakland may host the next three games if necessary, but it certainly won’t be easy as Detroit has carried their momentum from the end of the regular season into the playoffs. All the Athletics can do is take the series one game at a time and hopefully–the team that overcame a 13-game deficit in the AL West at the end of June can manage a way to overcome a two-game deficit in this series.

San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds

The Reds could not have asked to be in a better position heading into Tuesday as they have the chance to complete the sweep of the Giants after taking the first two games on the road in San Francisco–with the latest coming on Sunday in which they won the game 9-0. Homer Bailey–who pitched a no hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates the last time he was on the mound–will look to end the series for Cincinnati and avoid the tough decision of possibly having to use Johnny Cueto in Game 4.
