Rant My Life: Time to Be Concerned Over North Carolina Tar Heels?

Despite their No. 1 ranking, many believe the Indiana Hoosiers aren’t worthy of being in the top spot considering how well the Duke Blue Devils have looked so far this season. However, if there’s any team in the Top 25 to be concerned about–it may be the No. 14 North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels were no match for the Hoosiers on Tuesday in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge as Indiana pulled off the 83-59 win thanks to a strong performance by Cody Zeller. The 7’0″ sophomore led the way for the Hoosiers by scoring 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks to help the team improve to 7-0 on the season and hold that top ranking for at least another week.

How high Indiana deserves to be ranked will be a debate that will most likely last throughout the rest of the regular season, but Tuesday’s game proved that North Carolina should be the team under the microscope–not the Hoosiers. It’s not even December yet and the Tar Heels have already lost two games on the season–which should never happen for a team with this much potential.

On top of Tuesday’s loss to the Hoosiers, the Tar Heels lost another shocker last week when they fell 82-71 to the Butler Bulldogs in the Maui Invitational. There’s still plenty of time left in the season, but North Carolina hasn’t even begun their play in ACC and the argument can be made that it’s already time to hit the panic button with December right around the corner.
