Rant-O-Matic: Previewing Thursday’s Matchups Between San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals

Here’s the latest edition of Rant-O-Matic for October 11, 2012:

San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds Game 5

It’s hard to believe this series has come down to a final Game 5, but winner will take the NLDS series on Thursday as the Giants and Reds will square off against each other for the final time in 2012. Cincinnati never lost three games in a row at home during the regular season and after losing the last two games in this series, they hope to keep that streak alive on Thursday as Mat Latos squares off against Matt Cain.

Latos has a 2.49 ERA all time against the Giants and came up big in Game 1, so the Reds are hoping for similar results in Game 5.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Washington Nationals Game 4

After the Nationals took Game 1, the Cardinals have been unstoppable over the last two games and appear to be in complete control of this series considering they’ve outscored Washington 20-4 over the last two games.

Despite their 2-1 lead, it certainly won’t be easy for St. Louis to continue their hot streak and win on Thursday as Ross Detwiler takes the mound for the Cardinals as he squares off against Kyle Lohse. Detwiler won’t make things easy for the Cardinals as he posted a 7-2 record at home during the regular season, but the pitcher will need all of the help he can get from an offense that has scored just seven runs over the first three games of this series.

Either way, expect the fans in Washington to be the loudest they’ve been all season on Thursday as their beloved Nationals face elimination from the defending World Champions.
